The towns we take you to discover during the International Week.
Nice
Capital of the French Riviera, Nice blends a sun-drenched seafront with a vibrant historic centre. Stroll the iconic Promenade des Anglais along the Baie des Anges, wander the colourful lanes and markets of Vieux Nice (Cours Saleya), and climb Castle Hill for a sweeping view over the rooftops and the Mediterranean.
Between Belle-Époque architecture, museums and Mediterranean gastronomy, the city is the perfect base for the week.
Èze
A spectacular 'eagle's nest' village perched on a cliff 427 metres above the sea. Cobbled lanes, artisan boutiques and a sublime Exotic Garden at the summit offer a breathtaking panorama.
A fortified medieval village with the ruins of its castle (demolished on the orders of Louis XIV in 1706) and the 18th-century church of Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption. The philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche stayed here and wrote part of his work. The path up from the sea still bears his name.
Villefranche-sur-Mer
One of the most beautiful harbours in the Mediterranean, with exceptionally deep waters and a picturesque old town of colourful façades — a remarkably preserved fishing-village atmosphere.
Highlights: the 16th-century Citadelle Saint-Elme (built by the Duke of Savoy to protect the harbour), the mysterious Rue Obscure (a covered street dating from 1260), and the Saint-Pierre Chapel, beautifully decorated by the artist Jean Cocteau in 1957.
